Upon entering the NICU, you may be overwhelmed with all the monitors,
tubes, and equipment.
The equipment in the NICU is designed and highly-specialized for the tiny
patients in the unit. This equipment constantly monitors various factors
associated with your baby or aids in their treatment.
In addition, most of the equipment in the NICU, such as heart monitors and
ventilators have alarms. The staff in the NICU is trained to use the equipment
and machines, as well as interpret machine information.
While it is easy (and scary) to get caught up watching the monitors, we
encourage you to watch your baby. If an alarm should sound, there will be an
NICU staff member close at hand to help.
To make things more understandable we have divided this section in to the
following sub sections.
A picture of how everything might look like at a glance
We have tried to include as much information as possible, although not all
equipment and treatment are covered.
